The Top10 magazine, Nigeria’s foremost monthly magazine that celebrates top of the best in all fields of human endeavour, has devised a means of involving members of the public in the selection process of the top 10 list for every edition of the magazine.
Mr. Tony Iji, publisher and editor-in-chief of the magazine, said the process involves shortlisting of nominees who are considered outstanding in a particular area of focus from among whom the public is expected to select the final top 10s, through voting.
He said that after two years of successful operations, the board of editors of the magazine decided to democratize the selection process by throwing it open to members of the public, to enable them to have a say on those that deserve to make the top 10 list for every edition of the magazine. He stated that the final top of the best 10 selected personalities or institutions, as the case may be, will grace the cover of the publication for a particular edition of the magazine. This means that selection of the top 10 list for the magazine is now the responsibility of the public, and not that of the magazine’s board of editors, as was the case since inception.
Iji stated that the initiative to throw open the selection process to members of public is in response to suggestions by the magazine’s readers. He said widening the scope of the selection process will enhance the integrity of the process and the quality of the final selection.
He said the new process will commence with the next edition of the magazine, focusing on the Nigerian entertainment industry. That edition of the magazine will unveil the top 10 revolutionaries of the Nigerian entertainment industry. To this extent “we have carried out a thorough and painstaking research to shortlist about 50 outstanding Nigerian entertainment personalities who have played key roles in the evolution of the Nigerian entertainment industry, from which the final top 10 will be selected”. He said that details of the voting procedures will be revealed to the public in the next few days.
