Residents of Zamfara State have applauded their governor, Dr. Bello Matawalle, for promoting good governance in the State since he was elected under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
The residents who spoke at different locations in the State to our reporters said they were surprised that the governor has continued to maintain existing democratic structures of the opposition, All Peoples Congress, APC inspite of the fact he has his own programmes and could do away with them.
They cited his effort to still retain the existing local government chairmen in office put in place by his predecessor, and who are of the , opposition party,APC, even though the governor has the opportunity to dissolve them and conduct fresh elections, in similar to what other governors have done in the country. They mentioned Oyo, Imo and Bauchi States as examples.
They argued further that the governor’s conduct has shown a departure from the past way of running government by destroying policies and programmes, whether good or bad, of their predecessors, adding that his posture and direction in office so far shows someone who is encouraging and instituting democratic values. .
Highly impressed by his performance so far in office, a cleric, who wants to remain anonymous, praised the PDP-led government in the State of deepening and instituting democratic values in the country.
He added that “our people are very proud of Gov. Matawalle because we enjoy a relatively peace in the State since he assumed office, unlike what happened during the past administration when Zamfara was under siege of bandits and criminal elements.
