NAFDAC directs NBC to recall already circulated bottles of Eva Table water

Nigerian Bottling Company Limited may have to recall batches of already circulated bottles of 75cl Eva Premium Table Water as directed by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The affected Eva Premium Table Water 75cl was produced between 22nd and 23rd May 2019 at Nigerian Bottling Company Limited, Asejire, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Reasons explained: The health agency gave this order following public complaints of impurity contained in the water. The water was said to have changed from colourless to light green, even as there is also the presence of particles.
How this development may affect NBC? It is arguable that if NBC recalls its already circulated bottles of 75cl Eva Premium Table Water, it will incur some losses the company may likely incur.
Apart from the company, it is pertinent to note that the distributors, wholesalers and retailers who have already purchased the product will also be at the losing end because NAFDAC has asked for immediate stoppage of the affected Eva Premium Table Water 75cl.
Distributors are also advised to return the stock of the affected product in their possession to the Nigerian Bottling Company Limited, Asejire, Ibadan, Oyo State.
In the meantime, investigations are still ongoing as the company has been told to suspend all operations pending the results of the investigation. The agency also urged consumers to report adverse effects related to the use of the product to the nearest NAFDAC office or via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng.
About the company: The Nigerian Bottling Company is a beverage firm that is the franchise bottler of Coca-Cola in Nigeria. The firm has also owned the Nigerian franchise to market Fanta, Sprite, Schweppes, Ginger Ale, Limca, Krest, Parle Soda and Five Alive. The firm was founded by the Leventis family in 1951 and is now part of Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company.
