To maintain law and order and in a desperate attempt to restrict people’s movement and ensure that coronavirus pandemic doesn’t spread exponentially during the curfew hours, the Lagos Police Command has disclosed the arrest of 150 people and impounded 10 luxury buses for violating Covid-19 lockdown laws.
Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Elkana Bala stated that on the 18th July, 2020 about 2300 hours, operatives of Lagos State Police Command on enforcement of ban on interstates non-essential travel during the curfew hours, intercepted 10 luxurious buses with 150 passengers.
Prestige News Online further gathered that the passengers were travelling out of Lagos State to various destinations to the Northern and Eastern regions of Nigeria.
According to him, “The drivers and passengers were arrested, while the buses were impounded while the violators were arraigned in Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court,” Bala reiterated.
The Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu, therefore, warned commercial vehicle operators and motor parks against violating interstates movement restriction orders during the curfew hours.
He also warned passengers against non essential interstates travels during the curfew hours.
