Mutombo’s Legacy Commemorated on Glo-sponsored African Voices Playmakers | Prestige News
This weekend, CNN International’s African Voices Playmakers, sponsored by Technology Company, Globacom, celebrates the remarkable life and legacy of late Congolese-American NBA Hall of Famer, Dikembe Mutombo.
Born on June 25, 1966, Dikembe Mutombo, affectionately known as “Mount Mutombo,” was a dominant force in the NBA for 18 seasons. Despite studying Medicine at Georgetown University, Mutombo’s passion for basketball led him to become a professional player, inspiring generations to come.
Before his passing in September 2024, Mutombo established the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, dedicated to improving the lives of his people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He also mentored a new generation of African basketball players, including his son, Ryan, and rising NBA stars, Yves Missi and Josh Okogie.
CNN International’s African Voices Playmakers this weekend features Missi and Okogie as they pay tribute to Dikembe Mutombo’s enduring legacy. The 30-minute show features exclusive interviews with Yves Missi and Josh Okogie, discussing how Mutombo’s influence continues to shape the future of basketball and empower young athletes across Africa.
