The National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed the resignation of national chairman Sen Abdullahi Adamu and secretary Iyiola Omisore.
It also postponed the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled to hold on 18th and 19th of July.
Sen Abubakar Kyari Deputy National Chairman North, who presided over the emergency NWC meeting on Monday has now taken over the leadership of the party.
Deputy National Secretary, Barr. Festus Fuanter is now the acting national secretary.
Those who attended the emergency NWC meeting included Emma Enukwu; National Vice Chairman (North-West), Salihu Lukman; National Vice Chairman (North-East), Salihu Mustapha; National Vice Chairman (North Central), Muazu Bawa; National Vice Chairman (South-West), Issac Kekemeke; National Vice Chairman (South-East), Ejoroma Arodiogu.
Indication of the leadership change was seen when that the official car of the Deputy National Chairman was parked in the slot reserved for Adamu, the now ousted National Chairman.
Kyari then went into a meeting with other principal officers of the party from about 10.40 a.m.
About Kyari
Kyari, the son of the late Brigadier Abba Kyari, a former military administrator of North Central from 1967 to 1975, was born on the 15 January 1960 in Borno State.
He obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1986 from the University of Tennessee Martin in USA.
Thereafter in 1989, he attended Webster University St. Louis Missouri, USA for his Masters in Business Administration.
He was elected member into the House of Representatives on the platform of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP) between 1999 and 2003.
From 2003 to 2005 and 2007 till 2011, he was Commissioner in Borno State.
In 2015, he was elected Senator representing Borno North on the platform of the APC.
He was re-elected in 2019 and served till his appointment as Deputy National Chairman in 2022.
