Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode said on Sunday that former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi for president is an exercise in futility.
Obasanjo had earlier on New Year Day wrote a letter to Nigerian youths endorsing Obi, presidential candidate of Labour Party, for president.
Reacting to this, Fani-Kayode, who was a minister under Obasanjo and now the Director, New Media, APC’s Presidential Campaign Council, said his endorsement of Obi would not affect the chances of the APC’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s chances of winning the presidency in February.
Fani-Kayode, in a tweet said: “OBJ remains a father to us all & I will always respect him. Despite that I reserve the right to disagree with him when & where necessary.
“His endorsement of @PeterObi is not only inexplicable but also an exercise in futility. It is @officialABAT‘s time: nothing can change that.”
Also speaking, the spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, SAN, said it was quite within Obasanjo’s right to endorse anyone, but that it is bad for PDP.
In a tweet, he said “Quite within OBJ’s right to endorse anyone, but bad for PDP in 2 ways: (1.) Atiku’s former boss does not think he deserves to be President this time around (2) The little support OBJ gave PDP in 2019 & they failed, he has taken that away to LP. It is @officialABAT‘s time: nothing can change that.”
