Five students of Federal University of Technology (FUTA) were, in the early hours of Tuesday, involved in a ghastly motor accident, Prestige News Online can report.
The students were badly injured as a result of the accident but they were initially denied entry into the university by security officers. On arrival at the Health Centre after much pleading, officials revealed that ambulances stationed at the centre did not have fuel to transport the victims.
“They got to the Health Centre only to discover three to four ambulances didn’t have fuel. Unfortunately, we lost one of ours during all this time-wasting. Three of them are still in the hospital,” a student told FIJ.
Timbus, a campus journalist in the university, further revealed that the Students Union had urged students to boycott classes in protest of the actions taken by the school’s security officials.
Confirming the unfortunate incident, Adegbenro Adebanjo, Public Relations Officer of FUTA told FIJ that the school authorities were aware and looking into the issue.
“Whatever has happened is deeply regrettable,” he said.
He also said that the school would make a formal address later today.
